GROWN WITH LOVE, UNDER THE SUN, IN THE EARTH. the cannabis plant IS invaluable to OUR REGENERATIVE CROP ROTATION, BUILDING SOIL AND SEQUESTERING CARBON. NEVER ANY PESTICIDES, HARMFUL CHEMICALS, NOR SYNTHETIC FERTILIZERS used anywhere on our farm
Carbon farming/Using Hemp to Build Soil&Sequester Carbon
On Purpose With Good Reason
Since the start of the Industrial Revolution, agricultural practices and animal husbandry have released around 135 gigatons (135 billion metric tons) of carbon into the atmosphere. Heat and power generation is the leading cause of climate change, responsible for 1/4 of the carbon we put into the atmosphere. However, the world is warming not only because fossil fuels are being burned, but also because soils, forests and wetlands are being torn apart. The erosion and degradation of soil caused by overplowing and overgrazing has played a significant role in the atmospheric buildup of carbon. A way to put some of that carbon back into the soil and into living ecosystems is to use plants to purposely pull carbon from the sky-AKA carbon farming. This farming method is gaining traction especially because scientists are showing that simply reducing emissions will not sufficiently slow global warming.
Hemp is an extraordinary companion plant in our farm rotation, and does an amazing job of sequestering carbon. With it’s vast root system, cannabis literally pulls carbon back into the soil, where we need it to be the most. Not only does hemp have incredible effects on the earth itself, but it also enhances the growth and productivity of companion plants it grows before, after, or near. We are always rotating our crops, using regenerative practices to start replenishing and building up our soil and holding carbon in the soil. Beyond organic.
Recently there has been a change in vocabulary. Sustainable was the big word. It implies that you at least replaced what you took out. But there's another word that has come out- regenerative. We literally build the soil production capacity and capability. Using cover crops to replace nutrients lost during harvest, animals rotation around the land to bring new life forces, in turn enhancing the Earth. Our farm practices are a broader view of what it means to be a human being. We are constructing and creating a very healthy living breathing flowing self enclosed ecological farm organism.
PHARMACEUTICAL GRADE CBD PRODUCTS
Our phytocannabinoid-rich concentrates are created from USDA certified organic distillate, which is carbon extracted solely from hemp grown by us, on-farm using beyond organic practices with no pesticides or synthetic fertilizers. Our cannabis is grown outside in the soil, under the sun with lots of love in accordance with rules as a research partner of the New York State Hemp Pilot Program. We use third party testing throughout the entire process from seed to bottle, and are committed to quality growing in living soil with minimal external inputs for true ecological sustainability.
Regenerative Farming Practices
Natural ecosystems include both plants and animals but many farms only grow crops or only raise livestock. This is thought to be more efficient by some measures, but truly it creates imbalances such as nutrient deficiency (if only growing plants) or pollution from excess manure (if only raising animals). Conventional farming is kind of like living off IV- an IV of nutrients & vitamins & minerals. They’re put onto the land and then it is irrigated and then things grow. And yes it makes amazing quantitative stuff because they're injecting them with vitamin boosts. But they're not caring for the soil structure and they're wearing it out. We use HEALTHY, ECOLOGICAL FARMING PRACTICES----regenerative farming is REPLENISHING the Earth and the soil.
We intentionally combine plants, animals, and soil together through conscious relationships so they each support and balance the whole. We observe the rhythms and cycles of the earth, sun, moon, stars, and planets and seek to understand the subtle ways that the environment and wider cosmos influence the growth and development of our plants and our animals. Biodynamic calendars support this awareness and understanding by providing detailed astronomical information and indications of optimal times for sowing, transplanting, cultivating, harvesting, and using the biodynamic preparations.
We are commited to testing our soil a few times each year, to measure the success of the variance of factors such as our specific climate, crop rotations we choose and how they effect one another. This allows us to study our soil and see if and how our agricultural practices are really affecting our climate in a scientific way. We are at the beginning of our journey with organic and biodynamic certification.
